Article tittle: Tourism and Technology: How Tech is Revolutionizing Travel                                                                                  by Belen Vidal (Digital Project Manager)

Technological advances have changed the way we travel, and these new developments promise an even more interactive and exciting experience. Do you want to know what it has in store for us in the not-too-distant future?
Today, nobody doubts technology’s importance in tourism and how it has influenced and continues to shape, the way we travel: from the vacation destination we choose, all the way to what we do once we're there and even in the time after we've come back from our adventure. It is so prevalent, that according to a Google Travel study, 74% of travelers plan their trips on the Internet, while only 13% still use travel agencies to prepare them.
Who hasn’t gone somewhere just because Ryanair was offering round-trip tickets for 30 euros? If we merely feel like going somewhere, we go online and look for what the budget airlines are providing, we see what destination will be the cheapest, and voilà, let's go! This scenario, so ubiquitous today, was unthinkable some years ago.
We can find a lot of content online about technology's influence in the tourism industry, but as the Team Leader of the Travel project area at WAM, I couldn't avoid writing a bit about it as well as my personal experience from my latest vacation in Europe. I mainly wanted to focus on when it comes to using my mobile device since we can now freely use our devices because roaming no longer exists in the European Union.

5.1.1 Identify issues and trends in the tourism and hospitality industry: Technology

Based on the article above that I found in the internet, the tourism sector in our country is thriving and is an important source of national income. This has led to many tourist destinations in the country. The government has mobilized all its agencies to ensure that the tourism sector is growing rapidly. As we know, tourism industry is a very competitive industry. Looking at it, there are many challenges facing the tourism sector in our country in the future.

One of the issues that I want to share is about technology in tourism industry. Talking about technology is not about the smartphone that we already have, but it is also include how advanced accommodation that service provider give to tourist. Travel technology includes many processes such as dynamic packaging which provide useful new options for consumers. Technology has helped reduce costs, enhance operational efficiency, and improve services and customers experiences. Both customers and business can benefit from improved communication, reservations, and guest service systems. . Here are some examples of the ways that IT continues to improve the hospitality and tourism industry.

1)      Mobile Technology: what I can say is this is the main character in the new ways in travel. This is because, it has become our travel agency, tour guide, map and more. It is always by our side during the journey. I bet that if we don’t have cell phone it hard for tourist making a reservation. Cell phone also helping in creating a memories by taking pictures while we do not need to bring DSLR along too incase you are really need it.

2)      Internet: well if you have a smartphone or tablet, of course you also need Internet right? The internet has powerful impact on hospitality and tourism. In the hospitality and tourism business, effective use of Internet technologies can improve revenue. All the tourist need to know, they just search and all the information will come out. Such as Expedia. By using this app, ease the customer to make book a hotel.

3)   Recognition technology: one of the most important technology trends and  potential uses in the hospitality industry are especially interesting. For example if finger print or face identification could be used in your hotel unlock rooms.

4)     Virtual reality: virtual reality has been one of the most talked about technology trends of recent years, and it uses within the hospitality almost endless, due its capacity to place customers in virtual settings. This can be used everywhere from the booking stage of the customer journey, through to be the hotel stay itself.

Keeping up with the latest technology trends is of the utmost importance not only to improve the customer experience, but also to improve internal processes at the same time. By exploring the technology trends detailed above, it can help to ensure that your business stays ahead of its rivals. Therefore, a country's creativity in promoting their own country is crucial to attracting tourists and making Malaysia a major tourist destination. All Malaysians should make enough preparations to attract tourists to Malaysia.
