5.1.1- Identify Issues and Trends in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry

b. Safety and Security

     Nowadays, issues and trends in the tourism and hospitality industry can be found in many aspects. As example, safety and security is one of the cases that we can find the issues and trends in tourism and hospitality industry on it. Safety and security in this millennial era is related with tourism and hospitality industry since most tourism industries provide safety and security in their service. Safety and security issues included crime, terrorism, food safety, health issues and natural disasters. Tourism industries always focus on improving the safety and security issues to make it safer destination to visit.

 Firstly, natural disaster is one of the big issues in safety and security for global tourism. It’s because, natural disaster can be happen in anytime and anywhere without we notice it. For example, 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami have destroyed several resorts in Khao Lak, Thailand with unofficial estimates of casualties including the tourist. For trends in the tourism and hospitality industry, mostly tourism industry had developed the safety and security with modern technology which can give assist to human source.. In terrorism part for safety and security in tourism, it also give the big impact for tourism and hospitality industry. For example, United States of America suffered from September 11^th event after got attacked by terrorist, the industry of tourism in USA lost their economy because of the tragedy tourism scholars started to critics and analyze the important of the safety and security in tourism.

In crime issues, tourists can be afraid crime rates and cases that happened in the destination place. They felt less safe to step out to visit the place since crime issues is rising. We can see that Cape Town, South Africa was one of the best tourism places but now it became less famous since the crime rates rising which tourists take a step to not heading to Cape Town anymore. Research shown that they also claimed felt wary of going out after dark and making use of the city's public transportation. Health issues also bring negative view in tourism, according to research health issues such as dengue, pandemic flu, SARS, Chikungunya and Ebola are the reason for a country to have less visitors. They become to decline the countries with high health issues. In fact, Africa region started to slow the tourist flow since Ebola disease was rising in the region, it becomes worse when the tourists get the diseases from generating area and they go back to their homeland which the diseases can be spread around it.

In conclusion, the security and safety is main role in tourism and hospitality industry. Its important part of tourism that should be keep improving, the cities with big name also can face the security and safety issues in tourism as example, 9/11 tragedy which occurred in New York, United States of America. So, the security and safety should providing more qualities and abilities in tourism industry to give a good image for tourism and for our tourists safety.
